How do you know you are getting detonation? Do you hear it?

If the knock sensor is working, it should retard timing so quickly that you may not hear enough of it to recognize it as detonation.

I also thought the problem with the 99 PCM to be false knock detection, wherein the PCM identifies non-detonation sound as detonation and retards the timing when there was no real detonation.

Does the PCM flash a message on the dash when it retards the timing a certain amount?

where are yall getting the 02 pcm's and what do they run price wise?
is there a major difference between my 00 pcm and an 02 pcm?
allen told me to get one, i havnt looked into it yet

I can tell its pinging because I can hear it. It all started with my origional engine when I had my hypertech. From then on, its pinged like hell. Allen&#39;s tune helped some, but it still pisses me off. I dunno what to make it stop

02 pcm would be a great bet to get it to go away, it helped tons on mine.

I was just talking to Jonathan about that. Well, mentioning it to him anyhow. I&#39;m about to have a to retune anyhow, I&#39;m getting 285&#39;s and I want my shifts a good bit firmer. Maybe I&#39;ll look for an 02 salvags PCM
