Come to AZ and talk about wildfires. Thats NOTHING compared to the fires we have seen this year. Not saying that any wildfire is less dangerous than another or anything like that, but we have had some of the worst ever.
Just this year we have had one fire that burned 538,049 acres....thats ~840 square miles...and a second that burned 222,954 acres...thats ~348 square miles.
In 2002 we also had one that burned 468,638 acres...~732 square miles.
We had three here around Paris and Pattonville yesterday. Small ones like 20-30 acres burned by each. However, that is a daily basis around here lately.
A good friend's grandmother and parents home burnt today in north east Texas.
Yea, we have not had any large uncontainable fires yet. Unfortunately they have claimed several homes and farms before being put out. My grandparents live on a little under 100 acres on 271. Their neighbors paster burnt last month and almost got the neighbors house. My granddad ruined two tractor tires spraying water out of his pesticide/fertilizer rig around the neighbors house and barn. Around here when a fire breaks out all the neighbors for 10mi go running to help.
There are 4 kids in Leander/Cedar Park who now have warrants out after witnesses said the saw them starting fires. What I don't understand is why the witnesses did nothing.
The air here stinks. I feel terrible for the people that lost there homes.
Some of these awesome people need to start disposing of there cancer sticks properly.
The wind has died down today so hopefully they can get the Bastrop fire contained. I've got a headache already today from being at work and nothing but a smokey haze is in the air. Some people in this world just sit back and do nothing, I don't understand it either.
They caught a guy yesterday setting fires here. He was a 62 year old white male according to the paper. No name released yet. They think he might be responsible for fires up to 30mi away from here.
