i'd go for it then. i know for one thing, your fuel economy should more than likely be better. I was just talking to a buddy who has an 03 silverado and he is about roll 300k on his 5.3 ( no rebuild yet). i have heard alot of other people who have ran those motors 250k+.

Had the day off today and so I decided to tackle the engine removal. This is my first GM truck engine removal, I got it done in one day and with hand tools. I wasn't happy that I didn't bring home my air tools from work, it would have been a lot easier. Needless to say, I've also removed the oil pan..........Pics to come tomorrow.

Small update, haven't had time to take pics. I've sourced an engine. Picked up a 4.8l with accesories brackets, harness and ecu for $125!!!!!!! I've got to order the motor plate adapters and whatever else I need to mate the engine to my original tranny. I'm considering any performance add-ons while the engine is out. Obviously, a new set of plugs, oil and filter. Still thinking as to what intake I should run. Lastly, headers.......still undecided.

Sub'd and good luck. I want to do a 5.3L swap on my '96 GMC, cluster and all, as well.

Motor to go in today. Ordered the motor mount adapters, flexplate and spacer from Street and Performance. I've still got a lot to do. Here's a small list of items:
Items that I need
-4.8l or 5.3l starter
-MAF
-Coolant temp switch
-Several intake manifold bolts(missing when I got motor)
-fuel pressure regulator
-fuel rail cross-over pipe
-stock intake box and tubing
Items I need to make or modify:
-relocate battery to driver side
-custom make the new harness
-more of a wishlist item but electric fan setup
-lastly clean and degrease engine bay area

Forgot to add spark plug wireset and the metal heat protection tubes for the wires. Anyone know where I can source any of this stuff?

Well, I've managed to set the engine in the frame. I'm having an issue with lining up the clamshells with the motor mounts. I've got the pass. side in but the driver side is way off. Not too pleased with these Street and Performance motor plates. Or there is something I missed in the instructions.

I should be setting the engine in permanetly today. Ordered my fuel line setup for less than $50! Still have my intake setup to do, relocate battery, make the wire harness, secure new ecu. Still a lot of work to do.

Update: To my despair, I was sent the incorrect motor adapter plates from Street & Performance. I set the engine in and found out very quickly that the engine was sitting abour 1.5 inches to far forward. A quick call to S&P and I found out that I got sent the wrong adapters. Monday I'm getting the correct ones shipped out and a return slip for the others. Thanks S&P.

Well, I'm in the process of looking for a 5pin MAF, OEM intake setup, O2 sensors and finally one(yup only one) spark plug wire and metal protector. I'm hopefull that I've found an intake setup from a forum member. I'm still concerned as to how the 4.8l manifolds are to mate with my OEM exhaust Y-pipe. Lastly, will be my A/C setup as I'm concerned with running the engine first.
OH, most importantly, I'm in need of the driver's side fuel rail retaining clip for dual line setup. I'm trying to find a decent picture in order to show you what I'm looking for.
