In all honesty I will never again let Comp select a cam for an engine. They like to sell off the shelf cams and most times you will be leaving tons of power on the table using their recommendation. Contact PatrickG on LS1Tech or NelsonPerformance for recommendations. Don't be cheap, if you go to PatrickG and he wants $20 for his knowledge, pay it, you won't be let down.
How does that cam feel in your truck? And Red that is a custom grind cam. But I did also call Nelson Performance and am still waiting for a call back as no one was there so I left a message.
A custom grind cam is where the cam is made to better suit your needs. Pat on LS1tech or Allen at Nelson can have a cam made specific for your application. IF you going with a 3k stall the 228R cam will not start making power soon enough. Something along the lines of the TR220 is more suited to your application.
i called comp cams and they recommended the G3 XFI 261 lift .554-.558 duation .208-.209 lobe sep 115.0. i put this in an 02 5.3 silveraado everthing else is stock, stock tranny no stall no e-fan no headers and stock injectors stock heads, the truck now dyno tunes at 265 rwhp and 275 rwfb. it dont sound like much but its good for just a cam. olny 1000 dollars too cheap you must get heavyer springs and p-rods too
