New Toy

Well, one of the extra '010' castings (4-Bolt 350) that came with the truck is going to find a temporary residence today at the local machine shop. The block had some work done to it, but i am not too sure what. Has new cam bearings and plugs but I don't think it was line bored.

Since this going to be a DD and Virgil talked me out of the crate engine :lol: I want there to be no issues with reliability.

As for rebuild; Northern Auto Parts.
.030 Hyp pistons, moly rings, clevitte bearings, felpro gaskets, new scat crank, double roller timing chain, and some other odds and ends = $474.00

Cam: gonna keep it mild 218/226 Comp Cam Extreme 4x4 111 LSA

Intake: Edelbrock Perfromer

Carb: Edelbrock 600CFM

Exhaust: Headers and dual 2.5 side dump

I vote for a holley carb over edelbrock...but that's just me. I've had terrible luck with edelbrocks (tho i've run performer rpm intakes on several vehicles)

I have the edel, and have yet to tune a holley successfully.

Any pointers?

Got some work done. Got all the rear end gutted. Wire wheeled the frame and started to hang the new leafs.

Ripped open the rear end to do the axle seals....this thing is junk. Center pin is excessively worn causing the spider gears to be very worn. The axle shafts are worn from riding on the bearings and are scored as well.

My buddy with the lifted blue chevy is giving me his old axles. Which is nice cause they have 3.73's.

Can't say I agree. I've had the same rebuilt edelbrock on my 69 for the last 15 years.

Go for the Edelbrock carb for that truck, incredibly simple, set them up once and there just Carters, so I'm all for putting a little Mopar in a GM. Last carb I bought was a Holley, honestly because it was quite a bit cheaper then it's Edelbrock counterpart. (Street Avenger 770 vs. Thunder Series 800)

Id run 2.25 exhaust on it, a 350 needs some back pressure. Hooker makes a sweet kit for these older trucks.

I ran the cheaper dynomax kit on my truck for 3 years with no problem and the pipes going from headers to mufflers is the dynomax kit that is still in use, hacked the rest off. lol

Thats going to be a nice truck when ya get done with it. Im kinda of biased of these older trucks, Ive got 2 Im working on and looking for a 80's crew cab 4x4.

Ended up getting the Dynomax. Hooker's was backordered til end of the month. Plus it was cheaper.

Yes, these things are nice and simple. Should have the engine in by sunday..I hope.
