i have a habit of staying out of that damn box everybody talks about. lol ok that's it, i'm going with 4.10's. soon as i put the awd back in. 2wd was fun for a bit but two broken rear axles suck. and going back awd is cheaper for me than a 14bolt swap.
here is a vid of one of the breaks. turbo tahoe breaks axle - Car Videos on StreetFire
here is what i was talking about with the gears on the silverado. with 3.42's note how we walk on the 350z until he shifts. then the tire barks and it took forever to get boost back on. another 350Z vs 4.3L silverado - Car Videos on StreetFire

You are on the right track with your gearing thoughts. You need to get that big beast moving off the line. Most of us run a light truck and with the low first gear of the 4L60E need a little loading to get the boost at take off. If you put a trailer on the back boost is made very easy at any speed. This would be the same as having your truck with heavy tires. Also the same as brake boosting in a roll race. As you have figured out all you need to have is enough load to make full boost quickly in first gear.

not trying to thread jack, but I have a set of 3.73s in the garage and was thinking about swapping them out for the 3.42s, but am a little unsure, what do you think quik?? 5.3 single cab, t-76

What gears are you running now? The 73's would be a good median for you
-
by the way I have a 30" tall tire

-
3.73 for you would be just like 4.10's for me due to tire size you have.
-
what kind of difference do you think it would make. would it be worth the swap is what I am getting at I guess.
-
i personally would run the 373 with 30" tire.

4.10s are iffy. I have them with around 31" tires (285/60/18). My gas mileage with them and the 6.0 is horrible. The reason I went with 4.10s was because it was an absolute dog with the 3.42s. The 6.0 just doesn't have the torque to lug around 1500 rpms on the highway, let alone a 4.8 or 5.3. I'd also personally recommend the 3.73s, but seeing as how you have a 32-33" tire I wouldn't hesitate to go with 4.10s. But actually go out there and measure your tire's diameter. According to Toyo spec my tires should be 31.5", yet in reality they are closer to 30.5" than 31.5". So that can also play a role in your gear choice.
