Minus the lift, tires, exhaust, programmer, and only if it's had the injectors done....LOL. That's the main thing, the injectors. I'm really scared of buying an older used diesel from a guy that had a programmer on it but that's just me.
My FIL has a 12-valve Cummins with 200K miles and the original clutch...LOL. The worst thing about the Dodges is the fall apart interior and the horrible auto transmissions.
I know the guy who owned.. he is my outfitter partner, and I know that he didnt run the truck very often.. he just used the programmer to tow..
Hand down get a cummins. I worked for my buddy's diesel shop and that things came in all the time with 300 to 500k miles on the original build. They also have a forged bottom end as to where the ford has a PM type rod. i am not real big on a dodge truck but you cant beat the cummins with a 5 or 6 speed IMO. The only thing a dodge really has problems with is the lift pumps get weak and will burn up the fuel pump. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and you will be good to go
i like the 12 valve cummins, u can get major power with some work, i never liked the powerstrokes
cummins or dmax is the way to go. dont waist your time with fords diesels. if you get an lb7 (01-04) make sure its still within the 7 year/200k mile injector warranty.

If you eat at the drive-through, get the Duramax, you won't have to kill the engine so that they can hear you.
i still have to kill it at drive through. but its due to exhaust noise, not injector clank. seriously, in my truck with the radio on i can hear a powerjoke idling from 100ft away. the injector noise is intense on those turds.
Yeah, be careful of buying modded used diesels... I would always look on the driver's sode exhaust manifold to see it it was tapped for an EGT sensor. That is an obvious sign that is was modded....Quote:
