Maybe should just start a new thread. Earlier today my check engine comes on goin home. So turned around and went to advanced auto to use there scanner. Comes up with p0327 knock sensor.
Well I didn't really notice anything with it going home, ran good. So I was just thinking about it probably half an hour ago to run the engine and listen. Started up no problems check engine light not on. I let it run for probably 2 minutes.. and I start hearing a knock.. kind of like a woodpecker in the engine. Very constant noise that increases with engine speed.
Took it for a drive and could hear it inside, ran it for 10 minutes a 3k rpm just to get the temp up. Get home listen again still knocking actually louder. Turned it off, restarted no check engine light. About 2 mins and knock comes back.. check engine comes on again. 282k miles and its not done it before. Knock on cold starts.. always done that.
Any thoughts?? Move this post if it should be a new thread please.
Ummm....this is a common DTC for this engine as moisture collects in the KS mounting holes in the valley. The resulting corrosion causes the DTC in most cases. On those vehicles, there is no audible knock....only the sensors are freaked. If you can hear it and you have the DTC, it's broken. Time to pull it and tear it down.
Yikes. With that many miles it could be a lifter... But I would go the easy route and take the intake off and replace the knock sensors and the harness it clips in to... If the knock still persists--like Nate said--time to tear the motor down...
I have seen high mileage 5.3's eat cam lobes. If it's a constant noise, it's likely there are issues. Faulty sensors won't cause a knock...only clatter or knock retard at higher RPM and/or engine load.
i say heck with it. do the 6.0!!!!! but first hook up about a 200 or so shot straight into the intake and let her ride till she's screaming to let go. then she'll leak all over the highway all nice and pretty and stuff! then when you get out and take a whiff......... smell of success!!!!!!!
either do a 6.0 swap or use a filter with a antidrain back valve like the mobile 1
