No way this type of damage would have been prevented by slight performance (not reliability) mods. We still don't know if the problem is in the TC or the rear axle.

Could be from changing the fluid to late. After about 50,000+ miles on a transmission you should change the fluid. After that you are chancing something to go out.
I just had the fluid changed about 10k ago and i just got it quickly looked at by my mechanic (hes to busy to do my truck till monday) and he told me from the sound of it that i blew the rearend. He said the noise isnt coming from my transfer case but monday will be the day i find out for sure. Guess its better then needing a new tranny?:ugh2: But im thinking about going with some 4:10's or something now.
Was that the first time you have changed the fluid before? If its the rear end, then I don't see why it wouldn't go in gear. Good luck with everything. Hope it isn't to expensive haha.
Yep.
sounds familiar.lol.join the club.just installed new gears today.
Well i did blow the rear end and i do need all new gears. SO.....what do you all reccommend....4.10s?
What's in it now?
do a eaton or a tru trac posi unit and some 410s.i was hesitant for awile to do 410s so i stayed with 373s.when i blew this last one i had a set of 410s convienient and put em in.it was worth it ,theyre not too steep ,driveability is fine and just a tad bit pepier.just remember if oure 4wd you have to do both eventually.
Ya i have 4wd and the truck has 342 in it now. I dont have a lot of money to spend here so im not to sure about going with a posi unit....but ill see. Whats the price range here
