Make half of the trip then stop and have some lunch or something and then finish the trip. Synthetic lube works fine in all application that I know of. Yes black RTV is the way to go just clean the surfaces and goop it on there and bolt it down and you will be good to go. 500 miles is always a good idea just like your engine or trans....... Lucas or Royal Purple synthetic lubes are the best out there....

So when should I change the oil in the back? Should I remove the cover and clean it completely and spray some cleaner in there? Or just open the drain plug and then refill it?
I don't think there is a drain plug, you just remove the cover to drain it. Give it a few hundred miles before you change it. No cleaning needed just drain it, reseal the cover and refill in the fill hole.
i broke my gears in not knowing i guess...lol i drove home then left it for a couple of days...lol good info will keep it in mind... what really is the purpose of the friction modifier...
