one of the reason why is the trans wont shift into 4th under WOT, or atleast they never used to.
I went from 3.42 to 4.10 in my 2001 Blazer x and it shaved about .4 tenths off the 1/4 and i ran 3000 RPMS at 80 woth 26in tall tires with a 4l60E trans.
In these trucks the 4.10 is a popular choice, but with your 5 speed i think the 3.73 would be a better choice.
I bet you have to shift pretty quick quik. :rock:
I would love to have 4.88s in my truck for the weekend. I'd have to spend 2 times the money though.

If you don't plan on any future performance mods like FI or some type of major HP increase go with the gear change. If you plan on a stall and some upgrades keep the 3.08. My 1st gear is no good with a 3200 stall 25.6" tire and 4.10 gears. I'm probably going to go back to a 3.42 or something close to it with the supercharger.
im guessing you have the same tranny as me and i believe its the NGV3500 correct me if im wrong. probably the same crappy rear end as well. mine goes pretty damn good till 65 then forget about it. highway im like18-1900 at 70 but who does 70 :LOL:im looking forward to having 6 gears for sure. lots of low end nut with an extra gear for the highway :)Quote:

He is probably lugging the engine quite a bit with 3.08's. A 3.73 will probably help his city fuel economy, and if he doesnt cruise too fast, his highway economy might increase as well, esp. if he lives in a place with a lot of hills.Quote:

my Vortec 350 with 3.08s would lick out of TCC lockup and downshift into 3rd on large hills with teh crusie control engaged. With my 4.10's the TCC would stay locked and teh trans would stay in 4th. 4.10's and 28" tires were too much fopr 70+mph crusing withmy 4l60e's 0.70:1 OD ratio. The 3.06:1 1st gear and 12.4:1 final drive ratio made for some excellent 1st gear acceleration however.
