Unbolt the torque convertor from the flywheel and then push the convertor back towards the transmission as far as it will go. If it's more than 1/4" you may not even be engaged to the pump drive. Since your engine/transmission assembly you purchased was for a 80e then you should not be really having an issue with the convertor, but it may still be possible. Try that first and let us know the results.
You might try turning the convertor while pushing it backwards to see if it engages the drive teeth, about a 1/2 turn at the max since there are two drive lugs for the pump. Only worry about that if you don't get any fluid flow from the cooler lines.
