i think ill get all but the filter changed bc if i run into a snag with the shift kit that part wont get finished ;)
you know where the stock air tube comes into the fender?
well i have that whole fender open. im not running my intake to the fender. im hoping to bend a peice of 1/8" flat plate the way i need it an cut it then tack it together like a box.
take a peice of 1x1x1/8 square tubing an tack it to a flat plate then make 2 straps to hold down the ECM. you unbolt the box an theres your ecm. now it may change we'll see how tomorrow goes.
or i could make a plate that bolts to the fender an the ecm gets 2 metal straps to hold it down.
im getting a lil sleep here and there at work. then when i get home ill go to my old job an see about getting a peice of diamond plate or flat steel bent how i need it then drill the holes to mount in the stock shroud location.
i really wish my servos an LTs were here i'd install the LTs then the tranny tomorrow along with the wiring harness...then everything else can get buttoned up the hour i have after work this week coming.
im only able to work on it all day the 4th an 5th, then gotta celebtrate ny 4 yr anniversary the 6th. also Midnight Madness at the local track :'( ill be missing that again.
ran into a snag..my fuel pump isnt coming on with the key..i didnt jump it so we'll see what i come up with tomorrow. i may try an bypass all the factory relays an bs..
which wire is the feed wire for me to hook up to my new harness? the "fuel pump in" ??
Hey Keniff,
Are you running the fuel pump relayed through the OPS?
Just wondering how you have it wired....
On the ECM mounting, take a look at the '96-'98 Vortec trucks. They have a nice ECM bracket that is contoured to fit the inner fender over on the driver's side.
Might be able to mod it to work with your ECM. Prolly work just as good on the pass side, as well.
Just a thought....
Man! When do you sleep? LOL!
i finally went to sleep at 11 friday night, an id been up since 1pm thursday :/ my fiance' got mad at me lol. it rained all day yesterday an bad wind so i didnt get a chance to work on anything.
hardrock: its wired through the stock ecm, relay, an fuse. all i did was cut the grey wire at the plug an connect the grey coming from
the front to the relay grey. then the relay red to the pigtail grey. i then connected each black to the blacks. i then grounded the relay to the factory ground bolt. my frame is a little dirty but that never possed a problem with the stock pump. somehow the ground strap to the underside of the bed striped out the bolt hole so i just grounded it with everything else. im going to drill a new hole in the bed an reground it. im also thinking of moving the relay back by the fuel filter area do i can work on it easier. just extend the wires and make life easier for me. the Walbro pump i got required me to repin the internal harness but i did it one wire at a time. plus i pinned it just like the factory one.
im going to run the red lead from my NP harness an let my new harness turn it on being its on a relay already. then itll be grounded through the factory, but id know itd have a constant 12v. im not getting anything volts on the grey wire even if i jump the fuel pump relay. imma chase wires when i can considering i start days today.
any ideas will be great, Thanks
oh an update:
Long Tubes are powdercoated, servos go in tonight. i may have time to pick up the LTs tonight if not then oh well.
i hope to install harness, servos, stall, tranny by the 5th an then start rebending the tranny lines.
also my AC system is always on..unless i pull the fuse. imma chase that down too. i know i have a few wires not hooked up bc i dont have my AC bracket yet.
Keniff,
If you're using the OEM relay and fuse from the truck's
original harness, the grey lead powers your pump, which, of course would then be grounded to the chassis.
The red lead on the relay should be full time 12v from the
power strip on the firewall. (fusable link)
The trigger side of the OEM relay is either powered on by the ECM, or grounded by the ECM. Can't remember which.
+Powered on, I think......
Either way it's only momentarily just to prime the system.
Once the engine fires and sees oil pressure, the ECM falls out and the circuit is then triggered through the OPS.
The OPS gets it's power from a keyed source. (hot in run)
I think you need a dual trigger setup to operate the relay
the way the factory intended.
If your NP harness eliminates the old relay, and has it's own relay wired specific to their harness, then.......I'm lost there! LOL!
It should operate very similar, though.....
its has its own power lead (red) grounded into its own harness. so connect the red wire to the grey wire(which is suppose to have 12v) then the ecm will tell it to power up.
i figured jump a 12v to the grey, it should then prime up. but if i have a ground issue..it wont do anything correct?
i hate wiring :(
i should have just bundled the wiring up, an hide it. but it was too cluddered so i started chopping. (haynes manual on the wiper cowl)
first thing first, test fire the fuel pump by putting 12v to the grey wire going to it, that will definitely tell you if the pump and relay are working. You had the right idea there.
do you have 12v switched power going to your NP harness and to what color wire are you hooking it to?
Where is Gammercy? Manhatten Island NY?
