Because GM is cheap and would only make a "performance" truck out of parts they already have, they wanted a truck with the MOST profit, basically they were like "hey guys lets make a 454SS, ok do we have a 454? No, we have a 8.1l? No thats not a 454. What else do we have? Escalade motor? Ok that will do. Can we adapt the whole drivetrain? Uh, not in a single cab, but in a extended cab it will, im hungry as it is guys. ok whos up for burritos from that stand down the street guys?".
Oh and to answer why there isnt a 454 anymore, is because when the transition happened from OBS to NBS, there was a new motor the 8.1l that took over.:rolly: Even if its not available no more its the reason why, does anyone wonder why GM doesnt make the 5.7 tbi anymore too.
i think he was talking about a 454 lsx hence "why gm didnt do a 454 ls in the 03-07 ss silverados"
TADA!!!!!! https://store.gmperformanceparts.com...-19244611--%3E
Yes but there wasnt anything remotely close to a 454ls, it wouldnt have been cheap to create that engine, about the only block that can somewhat do that is the LS7 and the LS7 didnt come out till like 05-06. Imagine, then they would have had to back it up with a STRONGER tranny.
oh i know i was just saying, and idk if the ls7 block would even work probably a c5r or something, still wouldent be anything cool like the concept with the 402 sleeved ls1
Now that would have been a REAL ss.
