Id pop the pan on the one in the JY just to make sure its not as bad as the one you have and not filled with water.

I'll be calling them tomorrow. Hell, maybe they offer a military discount! I'll post the results. If I do end up with a new engine....I'll selling off the engine in pieces that I've got. It'll be good for someone going for a nice build.
Well, I hope to be picking up a replacement engine next week. This one, WITH warranty!
I have one question, if given the option, would you go with a 5.3l or 4.8l? Additionally, will my ECU that was running my 4.8l run the 5.3l?
I'd go 5.3. Same engine as the 4.8 except for the stroke. (And before you all chime in with the different parts between motors, yes I know that 4.8s have a longer rod and flat top pistons). Any time you can up the stroke, its going to help torque-all things being equal. ECU will need reprogramming anyway, so it should work.
Between the two my choice would be the 5.3 also.
Looks like I'll be picking up engine tomorrow. It's been raining down here all week. Tomorrow it should clear up. Due to budget, I think the 4.8l is the one I'll go with. Unless, once I get there, they have some crazy amount of 5.3l they want to get rid of.
Hope all comes out OK. Definitely good advice to at least pull the valve cover or pan or something to make sure you don't get what you already have. Good Luck and we're looking forward to some pics.
Me too! I need the truck running before April rolls around as I'm headed to San Antonio for some training. I'd like to take the truck in order to bring my bike.
Well, new motor is at the house. I'll take some pics of it today, it was raining yesterday. Unfortunately, the top of the intake manifold was broken(looks like it was plastic-welded from the factory). In any case, it's a 2002 Tahoe 4.8l. I'm happy because I've got an extra set of flexplate, coilpacks, fuel rails, wireset, and non egr manifolds(in case anyone is looking for a set, I've got two). These coilpacks are different though, they appear to have little heatsinks on the tops.
I've already removed the intake and exhaust manifolds. There was a broken exhaust manifold bolt that I had to repair. I've bolted the mounts in place. I'm also drilling and tapping for an extra bellhousing bolt.
The best part....this engine has a one year warranty!!!
