I once heard you could run a switch to the alternator to turn it off & reduce drag while at the truck. All this without removing the belt. Anyone know what I'm talking about and how to do it?

You could probably install a microswitch to kick it off at WOT. I'll have to do some head scratching on it, should pick up a few more on the high end.
isnt that the differance between a ac compressor and an alternator, one can get switched on/off clutch, an alternator is always spinning???
that's the way I see it????

Alt is always charging, if you install a microswitch to disconnect the reg it won't charge...
All you need is a toggle or micro switch to cut off the signal from the little wire coming from the alt to the PCM, right?
would it really make enough of a difference for you guys to go through the hastle?
It probably has more benefits than the TB water bypass. I would think that the alt would eat 3-5 HP. My only concern would be if battery voltage dropped when the switch was off.
I know E46 M3 BMWs kick the alt off at WOT...
It only makes sense to disable the alt and a/c at full throttle. If you could put a clutch on the power steering that would free up some HP, also, if it were to free wheel at full throttle. That's probably why Honda is experimenting/implementing electronic power steering and electric water pumps instead of engine driven.
A micro switch on the peddel and a NC relay for the sml red wire should work. I know when you have an alternator on a test bench and you energize the field you better have a good grip on it.... they will pull out of your hands
