i was just wondering if someone could tell me what they think is it better to do a Lt1 swap or the 4.8. i already have the 4.8 but i'm wondering if it would be easier for me to just go with a Lt1. also which will the 4l60e transmission bolt up to easier or is it the same. any info anyone can give me will be appreciated.
An LT1 is a brute of an engine that has a lot of power potential but they're old school these days. The 4.8 will be a good start only because you already own it. It will be good for fuel mileage and when you're ready take off your training wheels and ride like the big boys you can directly swap it out for a 5.3, 5.7, 6.0, 402 or 408 engine long block. You'll just have to get the PCM retuned for the new engine and possibly add a little larger set of injectors.

Forgot to add about the transmission. Your existing 4L60E will work with either. With the 4.8 you'll have to buy a crankshaft spacer and bolts. It bolt on between the flexplate and the torque converter to space it out to meet the torque convertor guide/pilot. One bolt will not line up with the bell housing and the 4.8 but that won't matter, it will work fine without that one bolt. Guys do it all the time when they switch to 4L80E transmissions.
i have heard that the 94 and older 4l60e transmissions won't work because the gen 3 computer won't control the transmission. is this true and is there a way to make it work. i was told that you need a 1995 and newer transmission with the 13 pin connector. any help on this would be appreciated.
That is the first time I've heard of that. I wonder what is so different. I've been through quite a few 4L60E transmissions and wonder what is different in the early transmissions and why they can't adapt the wiring for them. My ATSG manual never mentioned any differences. I guess you could sell your current transmission and get a late model 4L65E transmission. You really need a stronger one to handle the power anyway. The older trannies weren't built to handle what your new engine is going to put out unless you've already had it beefed up.
93 used a 700R4 style tranny. It was the 4L60, not 4L60E. 94'+ 4L60E's are all basically interchangable. The 94 was completely electronic. I know the 94 computer was OBD1/II hybrid (OBDII connector but OBDI style tuning). The 4L65E isn't much better than the 4L60. If your upgrading from the 60E to anything 4spd overdrive might as well go to an 80E and save yourself heartache down the road. The 60 CAN be built to handle power, but Parish went 10's on a stock 4L80E and a converter/shift kit. Tranny came out of a junkyard lol. If you have anymore questions hit me up. The LT1 is a good motor, makes good power when built right (just like everything else). Would def. go to a Deltech ignition system on it though and dump the Optispark.
i have one question for you why does my b&m shift inhanser work, my truck does have a 4l60e. if it was the 4l60 it wouldn't be electronic right.
if i'm wrong please tell me why the b&m shift inhanser works.
the 80e is a beast but a 60e that is built right should work fine depending on what u do. as stated above Parishs truck is a beast with over 1000hp so that speaks for itself. either way is a good option.
