No heat.....need some help

A good while back I lost my heat in my 94 GMC Sierra. I didnt worry about it much since living in Florida winters are pretty mild. As of lately I feel my blood has thinned out and its getting colder than hell out now. I really need to get my heat working. Back in the day I used to hear water sloshing around in the passangers side lower dash area but that has since gone away. Can some one offer any input on to what to replace to on my truck to get the heat back in there? Could it be the core by chance. I tore some of plastics away from the dash and noticed a rectangular metal thing that I persume is the core. I guess
Ill run to the parts store and look for a repair manual.

Is the sloshing after a rain, after the truck sits for a day or two, during a trip? If you turn the dial from cold to hot do you hear any changes or does it stay the same? Have you chased all the controls from the climate controls to their destination and made sure they all have juice or connections?

The sloshing has my curiousity... :nutz:

If you are losing water in the radiator I'd say it's the heater core leaking.

The sloshing has been long gone, just thought I would throw that in there. I have the digital climate control read out in my truck. After running the heat for a bit I notice the core gets luke warm but not necessarily hot as I think it should. If my thermostat has failed in the open position, would that have any bearing on if I would get heat or not by chance. The truck doesnt seem to run over 150-160 degrees.

You have a stat problem if you don&#39;t get hotter than that. Thermostats are designed to fail in the open position these days. time for a new one.

Well long story short I got heat once again..woohoo. I switched out my old heater core with a new one (&#036;36.55 @ advance discount auto parts) and voila..she blows hot once again. It took me and my dad about 30 minutes to complete the job which was pretty straight forward.

I took a hack saw and cut my old core in 1/2 and let me tell ya..it was full of dirty brown gunk. Reminded me of thick chocalte shake. I would have took pics, but didnt have my camera.

thats exactly what was wrong with mine about 2 years ago..it was full of dirt and stuff. we just disconnected the inlet and outlet on the fire wall and stuck a water hose in the inlet and flushed it out..

damn, that sounds like rust. Maybe you need to flush the system out. They also make a screen filter for the radiator fluids that goes inline. That might be helpful if it doesn&#39;t clog up completely.
