I HAVE A 4L80E AND I HAVE A NEW STALL. THE BOLT PATTERN IS FOR AN LS1, BUT THE STALL FITS THE 4L80E. HOW DO I ALLIGN AND DRILL THE FLEX PLATE FOR THE SMALLER PATTERN? IS IT WORTH IT TO BUY A NEW FLEX PLATE?

Odd, does it have six bolt holes like the stock 4L80e does?

IT HAS SIX BOLTS, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT FITS AN NEWER LT1 AND AN LS1, SO 3 BOLTS ONE WAY AND 3 BOLTS THE OTHER WAY? I MEASURED THE BOLTS ON THE STOCK CONVERTER AND BY SKIPPING ONE IT CAME TO 10 1/4" ON CENTER AND THE NEW CONVERTER LOOKS LIKE 10" ON CENTER? I AM CONFUSED? HELP!

You could take your flywheel off and drill it if it will mount to a flat part of the flywheel. If three holes line up with the existing holes you can put some kind of paint or transfer material on the new locations and then bolt the convertor to the flywheel to transfer the hole locations. I would first contact the manufacturer of the convertor to find out what they were thinking. Maybe they expect you to use the three that line up and call it good? GM had six bolts for some reason.

Your first converter had 6 bolts and everything went in fine, there is no reason this one should be different?
Same manufacturer right?
see ya,
allen
YEA SAME MANUFACTURER, BUT HE SAID IT IS THE BOLT PATTERN OF THE NEWER LS1/ls2 with the 6 .0L. IT LOOKS LIKE THE CONVERTER FITS 2 DIFFERENT MOTORS THE LT1 WITH A 4L80E AND AN LS1 WITH A 4L80E. YANK SAID THE FLEXPLATE I HAVE IS THE OLD KIND, AFTER THAT YEAR THEY MADE THEM LIKE THE CONVERTER THAT I HAVE IN THE BOX? I DO NOT KNOW? I MAY BUY A FLEXPLATE AND HAVE IT MACHINED ON THE BOLT PATTERN SO I KNOW IT WILL WORK.

 I told you it was for something different than your intending!!! :thumb:
Why not just get the new flex plate from a junk yard instead of morfing one?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jethro_3 @ Nov 21 2006, 05:58 PM) </div>THE NEW FLEX PLATE WILL NOT FIT MY CRANK BECAUSE I HAVE A THICK JOURNAL CRANK AND THE NEWER 6.OLS CRANKS HAVE THE SMALLER JOURNALS SO THE AREA IT BOLTS TO ON THE CRANK IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. I KNEW I SHOULD'VE LEFT THE SPEED BUG ALONE. I ORDERED A FLEXPLATE FROM O'REILLYS TO SEE HOW MUCH IT IS OFF. I MAY TAKE IT TO A MACINE SHOP HERE AND LET THEM DRILL AWAY, OR I MAY DO IT MYSELF I JUST DON'T KNOW ?Quote:
