hi everyone, just joined here because i was told that this is the place to go for conversion questions.
so, i've decided to drop a 5.3L into my 95 2dr tahoe. this definetly won't be my last question lol, but heres the first. is there anyway that i can hook my stock transfer case to the tranny on the 5.3L? i'm not exactly sure which tranny i'm going with yet, but it will probably be the 4l65e or the 60e, so the output should be about the same right?

You should already have a 4L60E in the Hoe. Just refresh it and use it with the new engine, it will be 100% compatible after you buy a crankspacer and longer bolts for the flywheel/flexplate. It goes on the outside of the flywheel so that your current torque converter has a place to locate the centering hub.

Exactly! The 4 wheel drive 4l60E you have is the same as one that would come behind a 4x4 5.3 . just the electrnics are a tad different to my knowledge.

it's about time you got here

lol, yep i'm here. ok, i forgot to mention that the tranny is going as well (the first one started pissin me off, which brought on this whole LS1 conversion idea). im probably gonna replace it with a FLT. so, should i buy a tranny for the 5.7 and adapt it to the 5.3 or can the t-case fit the 5.3 output?

Honestly, I have never tried it. I would get the original unit rebuilt and use it if I were doing it. I'm sure you could convert every thing over but it would hinder your progress if you have to build custom mounts, get new drive shafts built or your modified, and figure out how to mount the shifters and linkages. You're not gaining a whole awful lot switching over, I don't think. Maybe Hummertech can shed some light on the reliability of the older transfer cases versus the newer ones. :hshake:
