you can do the swap with very little. my cost for the swap was $500 bucks but if you decide to do this it will cost more most likely. I have a 2000 GMC sierra that was a 4.3L 5 speed manual, i put a 5.7L OSBC with a 4L80E in my truck. here is the list of things you need to do the swap and some parts
- 350 motor of course
- 350 vortech computer out of a 3/4 ton van or truck (12200411)
- PCM pinout of the computer for the 12200411
- trans dapt motor mounts for a S10 V8 conversion
- Map sensor wiring harness
- V8 injector pack wiring harness
- Crank shaft postion sensor wiring harness
- Cam shaft postion sensor wiring harness
- set of headers from a 99 3/4 ton pickup
- the exhaust needs to have the right ends for the headers which can be found on a 99 3/4 ton exhaust
the factory 4.3L front drive will fit the motor ever one knows that.
the water pump from the 4.3L will work.
if the motor is equipped with a oil cooler you can use that or get the right piece to delete it
the 4.3L air intake system will work
the factory fan will have to be taken off and a electric fan will have to be used.
the factory fan shroud will not work. one of a 2001 3/4 chevy express can be fit to work.
the ECT will have to be relocated from the side of the head to the front part of the lower intake. the ect wires do not have to be extended
the knock sensor on the passanger side will haveto be relocated from the side of the block to the either motor mount or into the head. the motor forces this to be relocated. Mine is located in the drive side head still fuctions properly in that spot. the knock sensor wire does not have to be cut
the factory 12200411 computer will have to reprogrammed for the truck cause the orginal van configuration runs to rich for the new chassis.
plus rear end gears and the vin will aslo have to be reprogrammed into the truck.
I have worked out all the bugs on my truck. the truck gets 24 mpg, i have a K&N cold air (4.3L) cermaic coated flow tech headers ( 99 3/4 ton truck), and I tuned the computer.
the whole swap took me bout 4-5 weeks to do. then 2-3 weeks working the bugs out of it.
Hope this enough helps out some people. thanks
here are some pics of the swap.
