help with engine swap new to all of this

I drive a 94 ext.cab Z71 with 5.7 in it. I need help deciding on what engine to go with. Im debating on the Lq4 or the Lq9. My plans are to put a cam in and sts turbo. But on the turbo i cant run intercooler cuz the ones ive seen sit below the bumper and since my truck does go offroading i would be weary of hitting it. So what would be the best option? Im looking to get around at leasts 450hp or more. Im looking for speed, power and reliability. What other options would you recomend for my swap? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the 6.0 in a 2000 and loved the power it had...throttle response was something it lacked...a bit...but it would tow anything you put behind it with no problems.

You can run more boost through and LQ4 than a LQ9. If your planning on going Turbo id go LQ4

Yea but the thing about the boosts is i cant run a intercooler. so running over like 5 psi would actiually make me lose hp because the air would be hotter. this is just what i heard not sure if it is true. does anybody know if there is anyway to avoid having to put intercooler under bumper? If i could mount intercooler somewhere else besides under bumper i would do it.

Just run a big shot of methanol injection and you will cool it just fine. I&#39;m sure there is an intercooler that will work. Try TRT turbos&#33; They can make a custom setup.

450 HP is easily reached with a 408 cubic inch engine, no turbo required. The 408 starts life as a 6.0L and gets stroked to 4" and bored .030" oversize. Get someone to build you one up with about 11:1 compression and big valve heads and go have fun.

There is always the option of putting the intercooler in front of the radiator, like diesels do it. The only problem you would run into is having a radiator that would fit between the input and output of the intercooler. Assuming you got the intercooler and radiator together it wouldn&#39;t take too much to get it to work.
