just out of curiousity and the need to spend my money on my truck :drool: , besides running a bit cooler, how much would i benefit from a 160 or 180* thermo?
i've run across a few threads on other forums which read a 180* thermo would be higher recommended over the 160, due to the fact that these engines like to be ran warmer.. unless you are fi, then the 160* was choice.

If you have elect fans you can use a 160* therm and still keep the engine at 180* bottom. The therm will stop the engine from getting cooler than the temp shown but does not always let the get to it. In my case even in 32* outside temp, intake temps of 32*, 160* them, elect fan on low at 185* the engine will not get below 175*-178* per my Aeroforce gauge.

These stats are made by Motorad, the same company that makes Hypertech stats the only difference is the price tag, Orilley offers these MUCH cheaper than Hypertech.

Cool, I might be needing one of those for my Fbody water pump. I had purchased a 180 degree motorad stat for my old truck's LS1. Once I get the 408 installed I will try different models to see if it makes a difference in MPG and track times. Supposedly cooler water means more power but I keep hearing that the GenIII engine loves heat. :nutz:
There isnt a power gain in stats, But it allows you to run more timing before detonation occurs.
In other words if your stock your not going to see a gain but if you are tuned for a 180 stat and have one installed you can run the additional timing, its not the stat that gives the power, its the tune!
