I know it's been covered, but seriously, what's the difference in Chevy and GMC, other than cosmetics? I need to know because an argument is brewing on another board I'm a member of.
Thanks for any input.

As far as I know there has never been more than a marketing/cosmetic difference. That being said there are special editions in one brand and not the other I.E. Silverado SS, and the Sierra C3.
In the early days GMC was more of a commercial level truck. There weren't as many frills on the GMC trucks as the Chevrolets in the earlier models. Today, there isn't any difference other styling cues.
In the early 70's the 1/2 ton Gmc had the equivalent frame as a 3/4 ton Chevy..... "The Rock vs. Professional Grade"
Now as Red said, cosmetic.......
Agreed, GMC had a beefier suspension than Chevy but that was about it. There was also a $1500 to $2000 higher price tag on GMC back in the day. No difference now except for the badging and body.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the "BIG 10' or "Heavy Half" models?
Before they ever came out with that advertisement/gimmic they were different. the heavy half and big 10 were nothing like the HD we know now.
to me GMC seems to be different than chevy in a few ways, but i cant point to anything in particular and say what it would be. to me a gmc seems like the better vehicle, BUT chevy is chevy, and thats what everyone wants. id still rather have the bowtie than GMC on my grille. i wondering why GM didnt make GMC a logo like they gave chevy. also a lil awkward ud have two or three different brands that r essentially the same, but i guess it gives u options on styling, and well its been done forever ford, lincoln, mercury, mazda....dodge, chrysler, plymouth, jeep....chevy, caddy, gmc, pontiac, buick, saturn....toyota, scion...nissan, datsun.
