I hear some people talk about running sythetic fluids to help with a little bit of performance. I know they have synthetic motor oil. Is there any other fluids in the truck that can be synthetic like tranny fluid? Fluid in the rear end ect...... For the guys that are running synthetic, does it make it run better?

I think they make a synthetic for about everything. The only issue is that some parts (4L60E/Differential) don't like synthetic and/or require an additive. I could be wrong on that.
i like to run royal purple, pretty good stuff. but just like with everything else, everyone has their own preference. RP also makes diff gear oil, tranny, engine, etc.
other good names are amsoil, redline, mobil 1...
I'm running mobile1 synthetic in my oil and tranny. Some people don't like the tranny fluid but I haven't had any problems yet. My frind down the street puts Royal Purple in everything and he hasn't had a vehicle come back yet. There was an issue with the differential making some noise but they sent him an additive and that took care of it. It's a tough choice. I work for an oil refinery and we're putting Royal Purple synthetic in all of our pumps and gear boxes.

I have used Mobil 1 for some time now, and no problem at all.
One of my trucks got 400K on the engine, and I'm rebuelding it now. Take it appart and no issues on the cleaning parts (no mudge, no gel like oil or nothing like that)
Also use Penzoil Synth on the rear end. No place here sells Synth fot tranny.
On the performace side, I just cant messure it, but I'm sure it helps a lot. My personal experience with my 69 SS Camaro was a drop of 40 degrees on Oil temp. That means less friction, with translates in more power.
The best part about synthetic is that it holds up to heat a lot better. In a vehicle that the oil has a chance to wear out before it gets dirty, it makes sense to run synthetic. If it's a fluid that gets beat on then synthetic may be the only thing that'll hold up.
I tend to run synthetic in street vehicles. Street vehicles, the fluid tends not to get contaminated before its useful life is up. Synthetic gear oil seems to keep differentials cooler. I don't know if it actually reduces friction a good amount or if it is better at removing heat from the gears. Engine oil, it's hit and miss as to what I run. The nice thing about synthetic is that it tends to leave less of a mess behind. A high quality dinosaur oil like Castrol GTX seems to do just as good as a crappy synthetic (like Pennzoil) when it comes to heat (by my unscientific air cooled sandrail test).
Hands down, synthetic is the way to go in manual transmissions. Don't have to worry about synthetics eating soft metals like synchros.
I'd probably run synthetic in an automatic transmission only if it'd always had synthetic ATF in it. I wouldn't switch. More important on an auto is regular changing of the fluid and filter. Bare minimum if you beat on your vehicle is every 20,000 miles, preferably every 12,000 miles. Heat is the killer on 700R4/4L60 transmissions and usually the fluid is the first to go and expedites varnishing/disintegrating of the fibers.

Hey Daniel. As far as motor oil, I would suggest going to AMSOIL's website and www.bestsynthetic.com and looking at some of the comparisons. I'm going to be putting in AMSOIL my next oil change after doing a bunch of reading. It's pretty convincing.
John Fuddle said it was best to avoid synthetic tranny fluid. He said you don't want things TOO slippery in there since the clutches and all have to grab. In fact he said him and a lot of tranny guys he talks to are adding a 1/2 quart of gear oil to their fluid to give it some extra grab. They've apparently been doing it for a while with good results.
As far as the rear axle, that's already synthetic according to the owners manual.
As far as gains, one of the truck magazines did a full synthetic conversion on an older Chevy truck (motor oil, tranny fluid, and axles) and showed a gain of 10 hp on the dyno. I would think most of that would come from the motor oil change.
