Need max power for less money

ok, my friend has a 96 camaro that he thinks is God. He busted out a best of 13.5 with exhaust programer, intake, clutch.

I am getting a 04 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 X Cab short bed. I plan on a shift kit and servo first off to hold the tranny together. What do I need to beat him and as cheaply as possible?

I have talked to SLP who claims if I get headers, exhaust, and Intake for their head cam package I should be around 460 or so with their tuning. Sounds great to me. But I am looking at 2500 + install + tuning. I was thinking there must be some other way. I am going to do headers and intake and magnaflow exhaust for sure but what is next???

well i was planning a 150 shot but that moves me from a 15.8 to 16.0 stock to a 14.8 or so leaving 1.3 sec needed. How much will headers (long tube) exhaust and intake shave off anyone???

You are going to need to make a lot of changes to get that big heavy truck to run that quick. Check out some of the fast truck list and see what mod they have made and how quick they have run. Thats what I started with and them got advice on here and and other web site. Check BigKid web site out he just ran 12.8 in reg cab. with bolt on's.

If you swaped in a 5.7 or a 6.0 you would get alot closer! just a thought.

You're gonna need more that just some nitrous on that.

Start with a high stall converter. 10", 3600stall, multiclutch lockup, 2.65STR. OR maybe a Yank TruckThruster line. Do you tow?
Cam like a a 218/226 .535/.550 114LSA
Ported heads and milled heads
6.0 motor (the HO for more compression)
Intake
ASP pulley
Full exhaust w/ long tubes, 2.5" duals,
Tune

You'd get pretty close like that n/a then with a 100shot I'd say you'll take him.

BUT watch out LT1's get fast for cheap. Good headers, a set of lower gears in that 6 speed, and traction I'd bet it would bust high 12's...

I was kinda hoping to make it still tow so I would like to keep the converter low but I am open to a mild converter. I'd like to keep good low end. I might pick up a 01 or 02 and just mod from there because these trucks are so easy to swap low miles isn't a needed. I would think i could get a nice SLT or SLE Z71 a lot cheaper than a 04 and lower payments equals more mods.

To make that truck run you'll need more than the mods mti listed.

NOS is the cheapest like it was already said,

Best bet is a lq96.0L, cam and nos,

I would think the6L would get you in the 14's and the nos and cam 13's.

but, get used one and yes you'll have more $$ for mods, lol

10", 3600stall, multiclutch lockup, 2.65STR that converter would still have full lockup and towing capacity...just set you back a good chunck of change. The TT3000 Yank is also a good choice. This is where you're going to gain massive off idle speeds.

Allen's converter is a Yank 3200 for a Z28. It's about 11" from what I remember.
