Im not the most technicle guy here but here goes. a stall is a torque converter also known as a Stall converter. What it does is lets you rev the motor up higher before the vehicle starts to move. To Stall up is to have your brakes fully applied and rev your engine up before your tires break lose, essentially putting your vehicle in the upper rpms where your power band is for a quicker take off than just mashing it from a low idle. where is the stall? The stall is the round can that attaches the flywheel on the end of the crank to the shaft on the trans. It acts as a pump giving different ratios at different speeds. After a certain speed you can lock it up to go direct with no ratio.
how do you stall your truck , when you are at the track? Get on the lights and put the brakes on hard. Then with my 3000 stall I press the gas up to the point where the brakes just keep the truck from creeping. Appx 2800 rpm
and why do you do it? Get the engine closer to the power curve. When my cam was installed I would punch the gas and the truck would go then "Take off" around 3000 rpm. Now with the 3000 stall I can punch the gas and the truck gets to the power curve and pushes you into the seat immediately.
what are specs for a cam that is street and strip worthy? You need to answer a few questions first. What are your future plans? Turbo, Supercharger, Normal asperated, headers, cat back exhaust, lower gears, nitrous, daily driver, power, 1/4 miler, smooth or all out balls to the wall. When you add power you will need to consider what parts are next.
