Vortec V6 anyone??

New to the site!!!! Need some help to identify a 4.3 V6. I bought the motor a few years back with the intent of upgrading my 93 C1500 to a Vortec 4.3. My old truck has 216000 and the original TBI V6 still runs like a top. My plans where to swap the motors out. The problem is with fuel system. It appears to be a CSFI (Central Sequential Fuel Injection) motor. The motor is a complete assembly line unit down to the plugs (new never fired). The interesting thing to me is it is stamped with the following GM 4.3 LG. Does anyone know what this motor wasfor....I thought it was a 1996 blazer motor now I'm not sure.

Note: because I will have to change fuel pumps etc. Thinking very hard about an LS1 Corvette swap instead.
But I have a great little V6 that needs to go in something....got to consider the gas prices....I have a 1996 Tahoe Sport that needs a motor... spun a bearing, could do the LS thing with it....just thinking out loud.

Any advise on the ID of the V6 would be extremely helpful.

I thought the vortec V6s were "w" or "z" codes?

My 97 Astro has a Vortec and it's a "w" as is my bud's S10.

yeah my 4.3 has the z code

If you keep it V6 just swap out the long blocks and switch intakes and distributors.

GENTLEMEN:

There in lies the problem....the motor is a Vortec, it is for a rear wheel drive and the code is as stated.
GM 4.3 LG this is stamped on the block at the back near the passenger side head.

To address the use of the 1993 TBI system..on the votec long block....it doesn&#39;t work like that. You can not interchange manifolds. The vortec heads are interchangable, but the intakes are not. There is an after market vortec unit for a four barrel carb. which you can use an adapter to convert back to a TBI, but this is defeating the purpose of upgrading. This is a street truck and has to pass emissions. The intake that I reference doesn&#39;t have an EGR valve location. Besides why go back to old school technology.

The problem with the Vortec V6&#39;s is, there was very little after market toys made for it. Even though the motors were available up to last year (95) in the Blazers. Its hard to even find a set of headers...

Maybe, the motor has a stamping else where that I have not seen. Any pointers where to look????? I have to properly ID this unit before I can try to locate a wiring harness to adapt to the 93. Theres got to be someone whom has had this problem before me.

I will continue to do my research and hopefully find an answer. If I do I will advise. If any of you guys know of a V6 Guru. Please let me know.

I wouldn&#39;t eff with the V6, but that&#39;s just me. I&#39;d do the LSx engine and be happy. The Vortec V6, even with tons of speed parts, is never going to equal the power of the Gen3 engine. Saddle up Cowboy.

I have a 93 bayliner (boat) with the 4.3 and was replacing it and found out from my machinist that i needed the 4.3lg some special thing mercruiser had with GM. I was told you only put the lg in boats.

ALL '87-up 4.3 blocks have that 4.3LG cast in there, it means it's a 4.3. Look at any '87-up 305 block, it'll have 5.0LG there, 350s have 5.7LG there.
If it's a vortec, there will be an electrical thing in the timing cover, at the bottom, slightly to the passenger side.
Vortec 4.3s had 2 different cams, the difference is 10 horsepower. They're commonly referred to as the 200-horse cam, and the 190-horse cam, although the smaller cam version has been rated as low as 180 horses in some apps, mainly due to the exhaust systems.
IDK about '07-up, but for '96-'06, a Vortec 4.3 is a Vortec 4.3.
for headers, try Edelbrock first, then Hooker, then Hedman. All offer different versions, with Edelbrock having the most versions, by far.
There are underdrive crank pulleys, TB spacers, and even special rocker studs in case you want to convert to 1.6:1 rockers. COMP offers some specific cams, and there's always porting and polishing for the heads and intake. Plenty of performance mods for these engines.

power programmers and performance chips. is there a way to tell what cam is in a 4.6? whats the difference between the w and z motors?
