I just wanted to know how much work and money will it take to swap out my 5.3 on my Z71 for a LS1? My bro-in-law just blew his engine and is ordering a new engine, no core is needed so he said he'll give it to me if I needed it. He blew cyl#8 and the cyl will need to be resleeved and I know it will need some new bearings as well as some other things as soon as I open it up and inspect. The heads are ok but will need a new valve. Other basic things like gaskets and stuff are no problem, what I'm worried about are the electronics.
1-Will my ECU be compatible with all the sensors?
2-Will my harness work or will I need a new one?
3-Can I use my tranny? (I will rebuild it of course)
I'm trying to weigh it out to see how much money to save and how much I want to put into it. BTW there is nothing wrong with my motor... I just see a good project here. I know my engine will need a rebuild sometime or another. Any feedback is appreciated.

I say its not worth the trouble. I would avoid that engine. For what it would cost to redo that engine you could buy a low mileage unit and be done a lot quicker and have a better unit. I'd stick with your 5.3 and do some mods to it. There are guys running 5.3s and mid 12s with bolt ons here on our site.
