You could build up a 4L80E and stick her in there, but she is a hair longer. If you want to make sure that she never blows up you could labotamize the transmission brains out of your computer (don't ask me how though) and slap an Allison 5 speed in there. I have worked with one of those and they are an insane piece of artwork that you will never blow up. Although both of these trans don't have as low a first gear as your current trans so you may need to regear to maintain you launch power..... and I hope that all makes sense. :burnout:
-
hmmm my launches suck right now.
does good once it gets up around 3000 rpm really starts pulling. just checking my options. is there anyway to change the first gear ratio? the truck just kinda rolls off the line. also i have 3.42 rear end and are not going to change it for economical reasons.(daily driver, just not right now seeing how its just sitting in the driveway).
probably going to get cottman transmissions to do the rebuild.for around 2000. but they where telling me that they have done several trans for guys that are running in the 10"s that arent having any problems with theirs.i just want something that will hold, this is twice this has happened and its pissed me off. leavin me atranded.had to f^%^@# walk home. and have an F350 pull me home.
How imbarresing!

Well I have more experience with stock, modified, and full custom 4L60E transmissions then anyone ever should. The simple fact is that a heavily modified one may hold up to what your truck has now but it is borderline and I can promise you that it will NOT hold up to the power that your truck will be laying down in the future. I have seen slightly tweaked 4.3L's eat heavily modded 4L60E's for god sakes. Unfortunately that trans has the lowest first gear of any of the GM trans and as far as I know you can not get lower gears for the other GM autos. However you could give Jet transmissions a call (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm PST
@ 714-848-5515). They may be able to prove me wrong and give you a 4L80E with a lower first and second gear. A nicely tweaked 4L80E is more then able to handle whatever you can dish out (unless you plan on going over 700 lb ft of torque). But again it is longer, you will have to customize you trans crossmember, and you will need a new rear driveshaft (don't even bother shortening the crappy thin walled stocker, unless it is only S-10's that have that).

thanks. for the info. im lookin at an flp stage 4 but havnt heard back from them

It sure would be nice if they gave some info about their trans. I just mention the JET trans because they were experimenting there for a while with a super custom 5 speed 4L80E. Oh well, from looking at your list of mods I don't see any computer tuning. One thing that helps these trans a lot with durability and acceleration is tweaking there electronic controls to increase the line pressure and to get them to rev out to the red line. Made a hell of a difference in mine anyways.
BTW did I mention that it is Friday night, I have no life, and I am bored as hell? :bash:
-
ummm friday night.... lets see, was suposed to go to the track tonight but that didnt happen. i have some tuning. (edit) but no real tuning yet. was going to MTI soon but my laptop does not support the program. gotta find one that does.
the flp goes as following
$1795--level4 trans p#FLL-4l60E
$400---4l65E upgrade (5-pinion planet)
$175---shipping
$900---refundable trans and container core charge
at least thats what i was told.

well decided to go ahead and have a trany built. they told me it will hol up to 700 horse power. got a 3 year warranty to go with it just in case. getting all new internals race clutches, and a heavy duty sun gear , and sun shield. thats what desintigrated in mine causing the trans to lock up and snap the out put shaft, AGAIN. but hell thats what i had been trying to make happen so i can have it done right. also getting a programmable transgo shift kit. told me ill be able to bark 2nd and also 3rd gears. if and when this happens ill be shure to vid that also  . also replacing a couple of other things along with the important things. dont have the list in front me, but when i get it back(probably wed at the earliest) ill be sure to post exactly all that was done, and give an update on how it drives. :burnout:

Hey, our sponsor Joe at jagperformance built my trans and it's been holding up great.
I just ran my best with of a 13.3 so that should tell you. I rag it out everyday and really put it to use.
I don't think any 60E is going to handle 700hp, at least no more than 6months of racing like we do.
later,
allen
