 I am in California. Here is some info I have just collected. Smog legal swap is a must. #1 I could get busted in one of those portable radside somg check CHP traps. #2 Even if I get away with the roadside smog checks I still have to smog the truck every two years. #3 If I ever decide to sell the truck I will get peanuts for it because it wont pass smog.
Got some info from a shop In the area. The rules go as follows:
Can't put a heavy duty engine in the truck if i was not availiable from the factory
Must satisfy all OBDII functions (Evap, EGR, cats, AIR pump etc.)
Must use all the smog control equipment the PCM was designed to use (fuel tank pressure sensor, evap cannister, rear o2 sensors Etc.)
Intake and exaust must remain factory or need a CARB EO number.
Must pass tail pipe Emissions
