I just bought a 2002 Ls1 and I am putting in to a 2001 Chevy Silverado. The old engine is out and I hope to start the install this weekend. I am right now in the middle of cleaning the engine bay and getting the engine ready. Any feedback or suggestions would be nice.I should have some pictures soon,or click on my profile .
You prette much have the hardest part done, getting the engine.
It's easier to install the engine with the intake off
Make sure you trans is out of the way
Use an adjustable hoist thingy, that tilts the engine
it's not too hard, if you can remove your engine, you have it made.
Are you using the ls1 intake and stuff, or swapping all of it over and making it look stock?
Get those pics and i'll make you a section in our member's page, it's something for those who don't have a webpage , gives em a nice link to show their truck off.

very nice...just a motor or did you get a tranny with it? must plan on re-using the auto already in there huh?

btw...i thought the red fuel covers were for ls6 motors???
I boght the covers separate, project mooving on to the fuel system and wiring. The single feed line on the LS1 will have to inplement the use of a fuel pressure regulator (in line). I am most concerned about the wiring!!!
By the way, the truck was originally powered by a 4.3
Mine is the single feed line like you are talking about. I can't see it making any difference over the return fuel line setup.
:eek: I am in California. Here is some info I have just collected. Smog legal swap is a must. #1 I could get busted in one of those portable radside somg check CHP traps. #2 Even if I get away with the roadside smog checks I still have to smog the truck every two years. #3 If I ever decide to sell the truck I will get peanuts for it because it wont pass smog.
Got some info from a shop In the area. The rules go as follows:
Can't put a heavy duty engine in the truck if i was not availiable from the factory
Must satisfy all OBDII functions (Evap, EGR, cats, AIR pump etc.)
Must use all the smog control equipment the PCM was designed to use (fuel tank pressure sensor, evap cannister, rear o2 sensors Etc.)
Intake and exaust must remain factory or need a CARB EO number.
Must pass tail pipe Emissions
