So what engine can i use in my 98 GMC Sierra 1500 extra cab? I've notice a lot of people talking about the 6.0, and that sound like an engine i would like. I don't want something to run at the track, I just want something with more power than the stock 5.0. I need more power so that I can tow something and not worry about not having the power.

You can do a 4.8/5.3/6.0 iron block or 5.3/5.7/6.0 aluminum block Gen3 engine. They all will be more powerful than the 5.0 98 model engine.

I agree with RED. :thumb: I can tell you now you will love the LS motors. For the longest time i was old school design. When i got an Ls motor i was blown away how well designed they are and how easy it is to making power. :twocents:

What about the engine harness, the computer, what kind of problems am i gonna run in to? I hav notice people having to notch their frame just to fit the a\c compressor, is there a fix to that without having to notch the frame? I kinda wanna keep it original. If i were to start looking for an engine, which model truck or suv should i look to take the donor motor from? Should i get it with a trans, and what other things should i get it with?
Thanks a lot guys

If you go with the LS1, you will want to go 2001/2002. If you use a 4.8,5.3 or 6.0 you will want to use a 2002 PCM. S&P makes a bracket to move the A/C to the top of the passenger side. This will run about $600.00 or so. the only reason to notch the frame is to keep the top of the motor looking clean but the S&P will give more of a show quality look. Allen (farmtruc) can build you a harness or you can use the one that comes with the motor and tie into it.

All right guys, Thanks a lot. Looks like i'm gonna start looking for an engine then.
So how do i get a hold of S&P, and do they have a website?
