Hi,
I've been reading the board for a while and have learned a lot, but I have a few questions about the swap I'm planning. I have a 1993 GMC Yukon 2dr 4x4 with a 350 TBI, 4l60e, NP241 transfer case and a 10 bolt rear end. I am in the process of installing a 6 inch lift kit and plan on installing 35 inch tires. I plan on using a harness and tune from farmtruc, aluminum radiator with electric fans, S&P ac compressor setup and not sure about motor mounts. Am I missing anything??
The main questions I have are if I install a LS1 and 4l60e from a camaro/firebird will my transfer case and adapter bolt to the new transmission? Will the transfer case fit in the stock location? Which would be the best year vehicle to get the donor LS1/4l60e from?
Thanks,
Tony

You can use the transmission and stuff you already have if you buy the adapter for the crankshaft. Street and Performance sells the adapter, and others sell them but I don't know who. What you could do is buy a 6.0L complete engine/trans/transfer case and drop it all in as an assembly.

I would say go 6.0L also. The cubes and tq will come in handy with a big 4x4 truck. Maybe even install a low end tq cam to help get that big truck moving.BIG 4x4 TRUCK+ BIG MOTOR= ALOT OFF MUD  :thumb:

So would the 6.0L engine/trans/transfer case be an easier swap? Which would be a good donor truck?
-
why use a 4l80e trans and converter? from 1999-2005 6.0L used a 80e trans other than the
SS, H2, denali, and escalade.
you should use your trucks transmission and adapt the engine to it.

Looking at prices on EBAY the 6.0/4L60E (or 4L80E) combo isnt too bad, I think thats what Ill get! Already bought the motor mounts. :thumb:
Id like to keep my NP241 transfer case (manually shifted.) Will it bolt to the newer 4L60E/4L80E? That is what I have now but it is a 1993.

Ok, I bought a 01 6.0/4l80e and have it bolted in! Got the motor mount adapter plates off ebay and they worked great! Had to move the trans crossmember back about an inch, but that wasnt to hard. I learned that for the transfer case to bolt to the 4l80 I need a different input gear and it will fit. I think my rear drive shaft should fit, but for the front I will need a longer one or some type of spacer. I am currently working on the most challenging step in the swap.....wiring! I have a Painless harness which is making it easier, but I have a few questions hopefully someone can answer:
Can I get rid of my old (93) ECM?
Will the ABS still work, with or without old ECM?
I know I need a new fuel pump, but can I use my 93 Fuel pump relay? (it fits in the Painless harness connecter)
How do I adjust the shift linkage for the trans and t-case since everything is an inch further back?
I cant find the CKP connector on the 6.0, where is it!!
I have the lift kit installed, so this thing is getting closer to being on the road!!

I dumped my 93 PCM. Not needed so far. You need to feed the speedo sensor feedback from the transmission into the speedo box behind the glove box, it's a little white box about 2 inches square. Use the stock relay if you can. I re-used the stock relay on both my conversions. That saved me buying a $3 relay.

Thanks Redheartbeat. Does your ABS work?

I have only rear wheel ABS and haven't tested it yet. I like the old fashioned brakes that you could lock up tight. You can scare the hell out of people locking them up. Try that with an ABS vehicle, ain't gonna happen.
