160 or 180 t-stat?

I was just wonderin where to get a 160 t-stat for my 1999 5.3 silverado? or would a 180 be a better option to go with considering the only mods are the turbo kit and injectors and a NELSON tune? Thanks

I'm using a 160, but i dont have a turbo. just cam, exhaust, intake and Nelson tune.

i bought a hypercrap 160 stat from summit racing, you could call hypertech to double check the part #, im not sure if you need a t-stat or if you need the complete stat housing. :smile:

what is the difference in getting a 160 or 180 compared to the stock one? what does it improve?

it lets the engine run cooler and a cooler engine makes more power, allows for more timing. but on a hot day temps still can go over 160-180 degrees.

i see. how much do 160&#39;s usually run? what does the truck come with stock? should i consider investing in one?

uuummm, i think stock is 195 degrees, i think, from hypercrap they are 30&#036; or so, if ya got some extra bucks, go for it i think itll give a little extra power but i like mine cause i like a cool engine, heat kills, besides you can put it in your sig, if you have the 4.3 votec try auto zone, they have robertshaw t-stats for around 10&#036; for your app. i think. :doh:

yeah lets all take a laugh at the funny man with the 4.3. :laugh: ............... :cry: haha no im just kidding. so wait a lower number in temp like the 160 is better then a 195? so does that mean when it hits 195 degrees what happens? or how does it work?
