I tried a search, but didn't come up with anything. I have been using Mobil gas for the last year with no problems. Running Allen's 93 tune, no pinging. Last week, Texaco took over the station, and I didn't think anything of it. Filled it up, and first tank didn't notice anything cause I didn't run it hard at all. 2nd tank, and I got to run with a modded SS on the highway. We made a couple blasts from 30 up to 120 (and then some), and I got some terrible pinging. At that speed it sounded like a can of BB's getting tossed around. I looked in the mirror & noticed that soot was coming out at the same time of the pinging.
I let off because that can't be good. :puke: Now I'm worried. Never had the problem before, but I don't ever want it again. Is it the Texaco gas? :tantrum:

You'll get whatever is available. You can buy gas at Texaco and it be Mobil, Valero, BP, Exxon..................It's whatever is available to the consumer (gas station) at the time. If you get a clear gas that looks like water that's our 93 Ultimate. Some gases are color coded, blue, red etc.... Unless you know what the color patent is you don't know who's gas your getting. I will speak up for 93 Ultimate since that's the best gasoline we make out here. I work for BP Refinery in Texas City, Texas. I'm not a contractor either I'm a maintenance supervisor that maintains the rotating and reciprocating equipment involved in our process. Nothing against contractors because I work with some of the best, It's how I got my knowledge of gasoline.

I don't understand. So when I go to a Mobil station, I'm not getting Mobil gas?
Just seems weird that I never had knocking/pinging until now.

You might get mobil but it depends on what's available to the station at that time. Just because it says mobil on the pump doesn't always mean it's mobil. We have Chevron blending agents out here right now and it's for their gas specifications. So go figure LOL!!

We used to have our own gas station at the refinery but they shut it down due to cost cutting. When the operators would blend the gas they would put 93 in place of the 87. :laugh: I could always tell when they had the 87 lined up because it would ping somewhat when I advanced my timimg. If the gas isn't being tested where you buy it from you could be paying for 93 and actually get 89 and run Ok but you're getting ripped off. I'm just being honest about these gas stations especially the small corner stores. You'll know when you get ripped buying low octane gas. If my shit starts to ping, I'll go back and raise hell with the gas station. I haven't had too many problems out of Chevron gas but you pay a little more. I would stick with the larger stations unless you know the owner of the small ones.
As faras your question on 93 octane = better performance, better gas mileage. Oh and don't let me forget = Nelson tune!! :thumb:

My pops and I own a Cheveron gas staion and we always get chevron fuel from the chevron plant over here!If we do not we will know about it everytime but it has not happened much!

I can honestly say that I stopped using Texaco years ago because of this problem . And this was when the truck still had the 4.3. That engine always ran like a top and never complained (although it was a gutless chickenshit ! :yawn: ). After several times of this happening the only time it pinged was with Texaco so I never bought it again . Bob Hope had enough money anway.

I've noticed a huge difference between Casey's and, well, everyone. It never fails, if I get Casey's gas the truck sounds like a can of marbles. :bs:
