So, who read the January 2006 HOTROD magazine article with nothing but bolt ons on a 1999 LS1 engine. The base hp before bolt ons was 366.1 hp at the crank and 531.6HP/448.7TQ after doing nothing but bolt ons, not even a tune. They increased fuel pressure but that was all. Final parts list to achieve these numbers was a FAST 90mm intake and throttle body, stage 2 ported heads, 1.75 ratio rockers, XER281HR Comp cam, 26918 springs and titanium retainers, screw in rocker studs and locking nuts, guide plates, comp 7.400 pushrods, , Dynatech exhaust, and Granetelli 85mm MAF sensor.
Two Guys Garage did a Magnacharger install on a 2004? 5.3L Tahoe.

After tuning on the dyno and seeing a lot of combinations and tuning for those combos, I've come to the conclusion that engine dynos are just like chassis dynos.
Every engine dyno will read different from the next.
There are so many corrections that can change the output of an engine, you can easily change the output of an engine just by changing the air temp correction factor on the dyno I tune on, that one is a superflow dyno.
So, yes, they probably got that much HP, but it's a bit stretched from the one I tune on in Nickens. That combination you mentioned above probably would have hit just above 500hp. Depends on the heads too, that's a whole other story on flow benches; btw, I've seen very well known heads not flow as much as they say, at least on the superflow air bench.
It's all about that high peak HP number most shops are concerned with.
As for the Tahoe putting out 272rwhp, LOL, just goes to show you the chassis dynos are just as bad from one dyno to the next. I've never seen a stock 5.3L make over 250hp to the wheels, maybe not even 240rwhp, at least on my superflow dyno.
So, are the numbers right, sure, on that dyno, but put it on another one, Mustang and Superflow for example, and I'm positive it wouldn't of put that much power out.

Yeah I was going to say teh baseline numbers on that tahoe are funny. I didnt even put out that much with allens tune and full bolt ons except lt headers it took lt headers and a decent sized cam to get me to close 330 at the wheels.

Yeah, the important thing is the before and after numbers.

Oh that point is not mute on my I know just makes me wonder if those numbers are legit too when their baseline is that much off. The radix numbers sound right though.
