OK, I've been reading the different threads about installing an 02+ LS6 cam in my 5.3 and the difference in the base circle diameter. I need pushrods that are 7.40" right? I found a set of stock LS1 pushrods that are 7.4. Are there any problems I may come across? I'm not planning on reving the engine crazy (probably no more than 6000 rpm). Also, I'm looking for a set of LS6 springs at a good price. Thanks.
I would go with the 2002 or later LS6 springs since they will handle more lift. Pushrods are a weak link so some hardened pushrods would be alot better than stock if you can afford the extra money. The stock reatiners are good for the LS6 cam but titanium is always better. It all depends on how much money you are going to spend. You already have 7.4 pushrods in the 5.3 so I wouldn't buy a new set of factory one's unless yours are worn.
What kind of power do you expect to get out of just installing the cam on a stock 5.3. I might consider doing it to my yukon. It needs all the help it can get.
It all depends on the mods you've done already. I'd say maybe 10 to 17 horsepower with that cam.

There was an excelent post with lots of links not long ago talking about the LS6 cam and push rod lenght. The answer is that you need longer pushrods, but I can't remember the specifics.
The only reason the LS6's use the 7.4 pushrods is becasue the valve stems are longer. Otherwise they would need longer pushrods also.
I also know several people using the stock pushrods with no problem. When I had the stock ones in I had some valve noise that drove me a little crazy.

i installed the '04 Z06 cam in my 99 5.3L and gained 41 rwhp and have the dyno charts to prove it :) The power curve show a bit of loss down low but not much, the torque is a much nicer upward slope and hp climbs straight up from the beginning and tops out at 5900 rpm. I have the stock pushrods but am going for slightly bigger ones then 7.4, i found a set of 7.450 that i am looking into.

I did the search on threads like this and the only pushrod length mentioned that I would need was 7.4", but apparently my 5.3 has 7.4" stock? If this is so, then wouldn't I need the 7.45" to make everything correct? I'm so confused!Quote:

yeah thats what i was thinking, people saying i need to go with longer pushrods, then they suggest 7.4".......I dont get it, so if the 5.3's have 7.4, i'm going with 7.45".

If you have a Comp, Lingenfelter or Thunder Racing cam you can call Comp and they'll tell you correct length pushrod you should be running.
You'll need the stock 7.4 with the LS6 cam. I just put a new cam in my engine and I used the 7.4's with no problems and the cam is more radical than the LS6. I would just recommend upgrading like I did so you won't have a weak link anymore. I would not recommend longer pushrods because you'll mess with the geometry and have to start shimming the rockers. This is the easiest cam change out you'll ever do. All my parts came from Motorsport Technologies.
