hey guys, i have a 99 NBS silverado with the 5.3
I found a LS1 engine out of a corvetter local without the intake manifold and wiring harness with 9,000 miles for $1,500...
is this a good deal?
how easy would it be to swap it into my truck?? isnt it just all plug and play?
let me know what else i need to swap the motor besides the engine...thanks guys
you will need the entire harness, sensors, and pcm for it to all go together. For the most part i have heard its a pretty easy swap, tons here on the site have done it, someone will come along soon that will be able to tell you far more than i can.

It is a direct swap. You will have to move the accessories and intake from your old motor to the new. The original PCM and wiring harness will work. You will need to have the PCM re-tuned to take advantage of the new displacement.Quote:

so i cannot use the LS1 intake manifold but everything else just plugs in??
and i assume i can buy the motor with no accessories and no intake and just swap over my parts??
awesome..now i need a tune from nelson then i am assuming?
any other info would be great....

simple swap engine for engine. Swap long blocks and you're done. Every thing bolts from one to the other without any issues. Keep the truck intake so it still looks like a truck. You'll scare the pants off of unknowing persons! The truck oil pan will switch over, too. Be sure to align the pan with the bell housing, put in on loose and after bolting the engine to the transmission you can torque the pan bolts to spec of 22 lbs. You'll need the windage tray and pickup tube from the truck too if you use the truck pan. The vette pan is low profile and has kickouts that will be in the way in your truck.
BTW, that's a hell of a price for a low mileage LS1.
According to the book I have, you can align the oil pan to the block before even bolting it in. That is what I did and so far everythings been fine.Quote:

if you have an alignment tool or an old bellhousing sitting around it helps to align the oil pan. The pan is an integral part of the engine to transmission mount on the aluminum engines. I don't really see how it helps much but GM stresses that it gets mounted parallel with the engine block. I cheat with an old bell housing to line my pan up.

well the motor is a long block that is 1500 bucks...shit if its all go and no fuss i might as well buy it and since im going to use my stock intake and all accessories it should work great....
