My idle dropping when coming to a stop or changing into gear or park and then coming back up to speed...made me think I had an airflow problem. But after logging and Allen telling me that is about as perfect as it gets, i started looking for a vacuum leak. It turned out to be the PCV hose. I finally got around to taking Vortec manifold cover off to check things out, I might end up getting a new MAP sensor since the truck does have over 100k just for safe bets, but I replaced the plastic PCV hose with a rubber one from Advanced Auto and boom! Pick up on the low end is a bit better as for much firmer and cleaner shifts. Also no more rpm dropping at idle, much much smoother!

Tell me more about this hose that you speak of, the exact location and all. I have a code that I keep getting P106 I believe: Manifold absolute pressure range/performance, that I can't seem to get rid of... :duh:

Glad you found it Chris! I bet idle cleared up a bit!

Zed, the 106 code is a map table I can fix for you, you're just exceeding the limits for the table.

I'd like to know whick vacuum hose you are talking about also. I'm getting the same problem where the engine tries to die at idle. Usually in reverse.

It's just the hose leading from the PCV hose to the top of the intake manifold, its plastic inside the rubber cover so it would be easy to crack because of heat or bending it too much. I got 11/32 hose like the factory one is, but I would try one size larger, it was hard to fit on on PCV valve and the fitting on the manifold.
