I guess this question is for Allen.
My truck is a 99 with 5.3 motor.
It has been stated here that there is an advantage in switching to the 2002 PCM. So, if I do that and buy HP Tuner software and also buy a Nelson tune, will I have to use my 2 vehicle selections for HP Tuner as being 99 5.3 and 02 5.3?
Or is that taken care of in the new tune of the 02 PCM?

You will want to get hptuner for either 01 or 02, whichever PCM you get, 01 and 02 have the same service #, which the last 3 digits are 411. The other license you can get for whatever vehicle you choose. HPtuner is great, cause all Allen has to do is send you a new file and you can flash it yourself, no shipping charges or delays.

You don't need HPTuner unless you are going to program it yourself or you need to send Allen a log file.

yeah you dont have to, but its much easier when he sends you an update or need him to look at something.

The X411 is for 01 and 02 according to the dealer. But will HP reject me using a 99 VIN number with 02 software liscense?
Otherwise, what would prevent me from working on any model year vehicle as long as I install an X411 PCM?
I like the idea of being able to send logs and receive tune downloads by email. Also, I would not have to go find someone to do the crank relearn each time unless I let the truck sit while waiting for turnaround on the same PCM from Allen.

If you're going with the 02 pcm, then get the 02 lic. and don't worry about the 99 lic.
The 411 pcm will work in all truck 02 - 99.
thanks,
