Old dude in new place

Hi from the land of fruits and nuts! I'm new to CA and the forum. I just picked up a new toy a 2000 Silverado lt with a 5.3 . i quit drag racing professionally a few years ago when the economy tanked and now cabin fever is kicking my but ,on a friends advice i picked up my old chevy he told me the new (don't laugh I'm old) LS engines are worlds better than the old small blocks of the 70's . My new to me truck is going to be a street/strip/haul bikes kind of deal .so if anybody has any in put I'm all ears ,and with living in CA now it has to be smogabul so I'm figuring on running NOS so o don't have any issues on the smog end of it . I'm not trying to turn the world just maybe get it in the 12's any info would be great i don't have the budget to make a bunch of mistakes. thanks ...
