Need info for putting a 4.8 or 5.3 in a 1992 k1500

Okay so the 700r4 transmission went in my 1992 k1500 and I want to either put a 4.8 or a 5.3 in it to replace the tired engine as well as replace the trans with hopefully a 4l60e, Im not a mechanic but am fairly mechanically inclined and have some people around me that could help out but basically I would be tackling this on my own.

I think I know how to put the engine and transmission in the truck but my problem lies with hooking it all up. How do I wire the engine so that it will work properly in my truck? I want the original clusters to work as well as cruise control if possible.
I need info on how to make this thing run once its in my truck

With the 92 you will need to use the wiring harness that came with the 4.8/5.3 to control the engine, along with the computer. You will also need to identify a few wires that will have to be added to the pcm from your truck. lt1swap has pretty good information about which wires are needed to get the engine running. The oil pressure sender will work without modification, you just need to plug the original plug into the new sender on the engine. Coolant temperature is from the plug in the drivers side, you will either need to tap the head on the new engine, or use a three wire temperature sender to get the working. I believe fuel level is directly from the tank, so that shouldn't be affected. Not sure how the tach and speedometer works on the 92.

Okay so basically after the engine is in the truck I am going to mount the ecm for the 4.8/5.3 and wiring everything off the engine to it, I will also be wiring the 4l60e to this ecm to correct? After all that is done how do I connect the original ecm and the new ecm? I would like to keep this as straightforward as possible, I'm willing to buy all the wiring harnesses I need to make it as easy as possible, I'm even willing to throw a carb on the 4.8/5.3 to make it easier, provided the mileage doesn't go completely out the window when carb'd.

Anyone else with a bit of wiring knowledge for putting a 4.8 or 5.3 in a 92? I want to get the matching 4l60e behind it so that will avoid buying the flex plate adapter, after I have the engine and trans mounted, the fuel pump changed, the adapters on the fuel lines for the filter and fuel rails, and everything is ready to go how much work is involved in wiring it? I want to buy the standalone harness so is it really as easy as hooking up the standalone harness to the engine, trans, and fuel pump and firing it up? I know I need an ignition signal to start it and connect the shifter in the steering column some how but I am not sure on how to do that yet. If I could get it running and driving rather easily I would be thrilled than I can work on having all the instruments working after, anyone with more info in doing this specifically on a 1992?

I should also ad that I want to keep my old cable style transfer case, it's a np241 I believe

I have a 5.3 in my 1992 but I have a manual trans. I would get a standalone harness. The tach you disconnect from your motor now and connect it to the new harness. You may need to program the pcm for the tach to read correctly. For the temp sensor I used the 1998 Camaro 3 wire sensor and it reads perfect for my truck. I connected my speedo from new pcm to the drac box behind glove box and spliced my tranny vss sensor into the new pcm. Made sone corrections in hptuners and my speedo reads perfect. On my standalone harness I only had to connect 4 wires(auto trans will have a few more wires). I left my ignition the same as before just connected it to the 5.3 starter. I wired the new alternator the same as the old and my charge gauge works perfect. I also used the distributor power wire for my constant power to my new pcm so there is power while cranking. The power steering lines will work with the 5.3 pump. The radiator hoses i used from a 5.3 and they worked with my 1992 radiator.

My 92 is wired exactly like gagliano7. I used a psi stand alone harness. Mine is a standard shift but I used a psi harness for a 4l60 in case I wanted to switch to an automatic later. I just taped off the trans plug. Hooking up a 4l60 is just a matter of plugging in the trans plug from the harness.
