Florida Newbie 02 Silverado
Howdy folks!,
I am new to the community though I have gleaned alot of information from this forum before actually becoming a member. I have been working on cars personally for about 15 years. I started with imports when I was younger and now I am a domestic guy but I generally love all cars/trucks. Love to research and love to read especially about cars.
I am currently working on a swap project on my Red 02 Chevy Silverado 1500 EXT Cab.
Previously I had slapped some new wheels and had a new interior put in now im down to the powerplant.
I had a 5.7L LS1 from a 2000 Camaro lying around my garage from a previous project and decided I would swap the 4.8L I had in my truck for that motor. My machine shop has recently finished rebuilding the motor and I hope to begin my swap very soon. Im on the hunt for a transmission now or possibly just doing a performance rebuild kit on the one I have.
Motor is basically stock. Stock bore hypereutectic pistons. GM Hotcam with LS2 valve springs, lifters, retainers, Magnum pushrods, harland sharp 1.7 rockers in 862 truck heads with stock valve sizes (hoping to see powergains from the compression boost despite the smaller valve size). Everything else on the motor is new right down to the hardware. It wont be a screamer but hopefully will be fun to scoot around in.
If anyone has any info or lessons learned from similar projects please share! (fuel deliver/return system is my biggest question mark at the moment)
Look forward to being an active member of the community.
Thanks!
