got my 98 tahoe swap complete except for the trans cable, I had some dirty dingo mounts that were supposed to be for my tahoe, not so sure now if they are the right ones... I had to notch my trans crossmember to allot the trans to go forward.. now my shifter cable is too short and will not mount into the bracket on the transmission correctly,, anyone else had this issue in a OBS with the cable shift trans?
there shouldnt be any issues with the mounts unless there are separate ones for 2wd & 4wd. /i hope mine fits like it should when I do mine.

Regardless of which mounts are used, they must be the 1" setback type. I also ran into this issue with my 6.0 swap into my '93 4X4. I used plates that put the engine into "standard position". To me, that meant in the right place, not 1" forward of where it should have been. I also had to slot the holes in the cross member to get the trans to land on it. The rear driveshaft still fit, but the front driveshaft was now closer to the front axle by 1" and needed a slight trimming to fit. I don't have a shift cable, just the old style linkage. That too had to be modded to fit the new location.
Not sure how you could proceed. Any way of detaching the cable and pulling all slack out of it to make up the 1" difference? If not, maybe jack up the engine and replace the mounts with 1" setback types.
in my 96 silverado i used multi position motor plates & used the middle(standard position). 1" forward or backwards the headers wouldn't fit. i used the f-body 4l60e which i think the mount is a little different from the truck 4l60e. my frame had 2 sets of holes for the trans cross member. at first i moved the trans cross member to the rear holes but the stud on the trans mount was right against the slotted hole in the cross member, it fit but was too close for my liking,so i used the forward hole on one side & the rear holes on the other & my trans lined up perfect.
Well after hours of looking and figuring I finally found out that I had the engine too far forward and the reason that the ending would not slide back was because I used the stock ground cable on the 5.3,, if it is used it will not allow the mounts to adjust. I removed the bolt and relocated the ground cable, then used a chain winch to pull the trans and engine rearward and get it into the proper position... thrilled I got it lined out and fixed yet at the same time I felt like a idiot :)
sometime you need to just walk away & go back later & look over things.
