Well that 3/4 ton rad is HUGE! It is still a single core but it has a 34" core. I stole this thing pricewise...they are about $250 new I lauged my ass off at that price.
Also I picked up a LS1 172* thermostat, that should be perfect with this monster rad.
I now gotta find that ATF heat exchanger "quick disconnect" tool and will install this thing.
Should be able to get my temps down to the low 180's.
So a LS1 172* t-stat will fit a 5.3L?

ya, it doesn't matter how many cores anymore these days, that one big ass core should be plenty,
i know with my Howe radiator, alumrad.com, it only has two cores, but they are 1" a piece, it's very nice, my 160 stat makes my truck run about 176 all the time and it never gets above 180, that's cause the fans come on,
hey, before you swap, get some numbers on the temps your run, like in traffic with ac on, with ac off, highway temp, stuff like that, we can use it later for mods that really work page, hehe, maybe your tranny temp will go down too, did it come with a trans cooler built in?

I have the stock 26-28" core with a modified stock thermo (BB drop in), well my temps still go back to hot as hell after a while. I dunno if it is because I have an air pocket or what. Like they will go to the middle of the stock gauge for a while then creep back up. I tried burping that bastard maybe 20 times so I just think this super hot Texas heat has killed the radiator.Quote:

Mine never runs over 185 with the AC on in traffic and the stock 305 radiator I had before the swap.

good luck on getting the temps down, it's a pita to have high temps, i also think the truck gauges are a tad inaccurrate, looks like you were using atap, a lot better.

Stock gauges suck. Take my F-150...I have a 4 core, 180* thermo, and a high flow (30% more) water pump and the stock gauge still reads in the same place! Hahaha.
Would I be okay to use like 1 gal of dex cool and the rest water?
I don't think more dexcool is going to help, i've tried that and tested water vs mix vs both mixed and i didn't have any good results, i just run a little bit of dexcool to keep the corrosion and freezing down,
i did get my truck to run about 135degs during cool months, here's how, i simply removed the stat completely , and with my badass radiator and going down the highway on cool, early spring days, i was at 135degs, not exactly ideal, lol, but it was cool, it stayed real cool to in traffic , with the fans running of course, but 135deg, just isn't enuff to activate a couple of things the pcm controls,
