which direction
ok so i have a 2008 gmc sierra 1500 all terrain crew cab. its got the 5.3 4l60e with 4.10s the truck is all stock minus a leveling kit. im goin to add some power now but im not sure which way to go. im either thinking a nice cam, heads and bolt ons. with a tune. or forced induction on the stock motor with a tune. i daily drive the truck and i tow from time to time but nothing to heavy. thanks for your time.

It depends on your budget. Do some reading on this site and you will get the idea.

Forced induction. It's a much much larger initial investment, but as far as DD driveability it's the way to go

If you tow, get a tune and maybe some longtubes. Build the tranny but keep the stock stall speed. Yes you can tow with a higher stall speed converter, but it sucks. I have a full bolt on truck with a 3000 converter, and even towing my 2500lb boat sucks. I daily this truck and at best in the city I can get 13 mpg. When I hook to a trailer I'm lucky to get into the double digits. Before the cam I could get 15-16 city mileage and towing would only drop to 12-13.

Honestly I'd get a tune and exhaust and call it a day with it as being an 08 5.3 I can almost promise you have DOD and VVT and cam swaps or forced induction would force you to remove most of it to really get the most out of the engine, I know for me this was the brick wall I hit after full bolt on my nnbs 07

dod as in shutting 4 cyl. off? and vvt as in variable cam timing? the dod im not worried about. ill keep reading up on everything. thanks for the replys guys
