Air Bag Sensor

When I bought my SSS at the dealership, I noticed on the dash display it said "service airbag." I told the salesman that I wanted it fixed before we made the deal. When I went to pick it up the airbag in the steering wheel was gone and he said the air bag sensor was bad and they would have to order it in. A week later I get a call saying its in and that I needed to set up an appointment with the service department to have it installed. I talked to the head of service and he said that I would need to drop it off a couple of days and they would install it. I told him I have to drive to work every day and couldn't leave it there for two days. Then he tells me he'd put me on a list to get a loaner vehicle. Well that was almost two weeks ago. Basically I'm sick of waiting and I'm thinking about getting the sensor and installing it myself. My question is after I install the new sensor, can I clear the DTC for the air bag or is the service department the only ones that can do it? Shouldn't take like an hour max to do something like that?

I pulled my airbag off to paint the trim pieces and broke some kind of CPA clip, and it set the airbag light on and said service airbag until it was replaced, I'm not sure what sensor you are talking about but the steering wheel airbag is super easy to get off just make sure you disarm it first all you need is an Allen wrench to shove in the holes on the side of the steering wheel to release the clips that hold it in place and ot just falls off, mine didn't require any tool to reset I just left the battery unhooked for a few minutes... I'd try it, it wasn't hard at all

Once problem is fixed code clears itself.

Before you remove air bag take both battery cables off and touch them together, this gets any stored energy out of the 12volt system. I do this every time, and it eliminates waiting over night to pull it. This is how Gm does it as well.....
