My dad has had this project going on for awhile, it's now time to beef up the 5.3 that's going in it mods so far are shorties and a ls1 intake. ( I know he should use the ls6, not the point) with a th350 behind it. Has rockwells with 44's so it needs some help in the power department.
Need a cam that would work good in this application to help turn the 44s and a stall to match the cam
I wouldn't go over 220 duration. I've seen a few with higher stalls and it didn't work so well. I don't know how their stall was set up though. I'm assuming loose because it would keep climbing in rpms until it went and it seemed like they were dumping the clutch on a manual trans. Depending on gear reduction a stall won't be as beneficial either. Me personally, I wouldn't run a cam that needed a large stall.
I was thinking the exact same. I really don't see how a cam and stall would be much benefit, being that you don't see much of the power a cam provides until you are up in the rmp's. I'm betting he won't be getting too high up in the rpm's just crawling, right?Quote:

The 212/218 is a proven cam to make good power with little sacrifice. In this case running a smallish stall 2600ish would be somewhat beneficial. Don't forget a big trans cooler 40k is what I would run. I think it really depends on gears as well. 4.56 or 4.88s at least to get those big tires turning. Milling the heads to boost compression would also be a great idea, because you will get some great down low power and still be able to run pump gas so long as you don't go to crazy.
Todd, is there any reason for running the car intake? A truck intake would work better down low with the longer runners. Is it a clearance issue thing?
I like the 212/218 and a custom stall from circle d. They can really get you exactly what you need.
