i have a 4.8 that im swapping out to a 5.3 do to the 4.8 loosing oil pressure. i need some opinion here. i have enough money to either put a tr220 cam and tune on the 5.3 or longtubes, y pipe,air intake, and tune. which would be the better bang for the buck at this point. eventually i will do the other but just can't do it all right now. this truck is a excab 2wd daily driver and already has transgo hd2 shift kit and nx wet 100 shot. any opinions would be helpful. thanks Travis
Do the cam first while it's torn apart. Also if you don't know cal speed has great headers and ypipe for $300 and an eBay intake is $60. Might fall closer into your budget.
If it were me might as well get the cam done since its not swapped in yet.
Only problem with doing a cam on stock manifolds and intake is that you're not going to see much of a gain because they are holding it back so much. Personally I would do the bolt ons first then add the cam later.
I would highly agree here. You need the supporting mods before you put the cam in, or the whole system will be holding you back. It would be smart to get the cam done before it goes into the truck, but if it's a choice between one or the other, do the supporting mods first. Nothing sux worse than getting a cam into your truck and it not giving you what you think it should be giving you. Put the supporting mods on and then save your money for the H/C swap.
