Looking To Cam+Stall 5.3 Tahoe, Need Suggestions

Looking to get some more power out of my 5.3 and have been thinking of a cam swap and replacing the stall converter. Current mods are in sig.

Anyone know what size cam I should get? I have been looking at a 224/228 cam from texas speed but not sure if it would be the best option. Trying to get as much power as I can for a daily driver.

Also not sure what stall converter to get. I have been looking at the converters on performabuilt.com. They offer OEM style, 9.5 inch, and 10.5 inch. Not really sure what the differences are, but I was looking for around 3000-3200 stall and it said that the OEM ones only go up to 2500 stall but the 9.5 and 10.5 range from 2800-5000. Could anyone tell me the advantages of the bigger sized converters?

That cam would go great with a 32-3400 stall from circled give them a call and describe your build and goals and they will set you up perfectly.

Usually the smaller the diameter converter the better torque multiplication. For yours I would do a 10", a 9.5" might be too small for the weight you have. I would go 34-3600 stall. Also, if you lost those 22's you would gain almost as much as doing just the cam :lol:

Thanks, I have been looking at the Performabuilt ones because I also planned on getting a level 2 4l60E from them and if you buy one of there converters, then they extend your warranty from 1 to 2 years. Not sure on there quality though and I might end up with a Circle D or a Yank

Lol yea I do need to lose the 22's, but I love how they look too much. I do go back to stock for the winter though.

Do you think I need that big of a stall? I am from tahoeyukonforum.com, and everyone seems to use between 2800-3200 at most for their stalls.

generally speaking on this site we are very performance oriented and have a tendency to recommend bigger and wilder stuff and not so much mild junk. A 2800-3200 is great for a 220-224 cam in a 5.3, but above that it's a lot more fun to have more stall. A 226/230 .6xx/.6xx cam with a 3600 triple disk from circle d would make for an awesome build. It would scream, but still be a DD friendly setup.

Sent a message to Chris at circle D and awaiting a response. Does anyone know if this cam swaps directly into an LQ9? I plan on upgrading to the 6.0 sometime in the future as well and want to know if I can reuse whatever cam I end up with in the new engine.

Pretty much everything can swap around between the LS motors, but that doesn't mean it's gonna be a good fit for the larger displacement.
